The American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA , Cleft Palate Foundation (CFP) and the ACPA’s Commission on Approval of Teams (CAT) has approved the Cleft and Craniofacial Team at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital as a Cleft Palate Team and Craniofacial Team.

Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital’s program is one of 49 in the country to have earned this approval.

The ACPA/CPF Team Approval process ensures that cleft and craniofacial care is provided in a coordinated and consistent manner, follows the proper sequence and takes place within the framework of the patient’s overall developmental, medical and psychological needs. Teams comprise experienced and qualified professionals who work in an interdisciplinary and coordinated system to provide strong and reliable communication between team members, families and referring providers.

“We are very excited to have the Le Bonheur Cleft and Craniofacial program be recognized by the American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association.” Dr. Robert Wallace, Medical Director of Plastic Surgery at Le Bonheur said. “This group provides standards for team recognition across the country and is a frequent source of information and team referral for families with children born with craniofacial anomalies. With the support of Le Bonheur we hope to expand our craniofacial services across the entire Mid-South region.”

The CAT was established by ACPA and CPF in November 2008 to manage an approval process to facilitate the improvement of team care. Approvals are awarded for a period of one year.
